Windmill Road Subway

Windmill Road Subway, one of several under the A3, is an equestrian subway built to permit horse riders to safely cross beneath the A3.  RHINOCEROS have refurbished retaining walls, soffits, parapets and the original hardwood railings.  Old coatings were removed with Interplus 634 disbonder and necessary concrete repairs carried out. Soffits were finished in Carrs Anti Carbonation Coating. Walls were first coated with a moisture tolerant epoxy primer followed by two coats of PPG PSX700 which has excellent anti-graffiti properties. Finally all expansion joints were renewed with brickjoint and Fosroc Thioflex 600 polysulphide sealant. Timber handrails were repaired and taken back to bare wood before coating with SIKKENS  Cetol Woodfinishes which have very high uv resistance and good durability. Manhole covers were replaced with new steel covers which are easier for maintenance crews to open and lift.

Parapets badly in need of attention.

New drain covers installed
