Old Street Station Soffits
Old Street station underpass ceiling and soffitts were in poor shape early in 2011. A thorough refurbishment was required. RHINOCEROS were appointed by main contractor Ringway Jacobs and began work in April. The failed existing coatings were removed with aid of International Paint Disbonder 634. This is a water based non toxic material which effectively de-laminates the existing coatings from the substrate. work called for initial application of Interplus 634 disbonder and removal of existing coatings. Suface preparation included plaster repairs, filling of cracks and a thorough sanding down of all surfaces. The three coat system was supplied by H S Richards of Smethwick. The specially formulated low VOC primer/undercoat and a low VOC gloss have produced a spectacularly glossy white ceiling. All work was carried out at night and the concourses carefully cleaned and left ready for the public by 6 am each morning. The high gloss reflects a lot more light back into the public area and the client, Transport for London, were delighted. The same treatment has now been instructed on the remaining areas of the complex.
